By submitting your work, you confirm that it has not been previously published in any form, whether by another magazine, online publication, personal website, blog, or social media platform. Works first published by our magazine may not be reposted or shared online without proper credit. Any publication on personal websites, blogs, portfolios, or social media platforms must clearly acknowledge our magazine as the original publisher.
Simultaneous Submissions

Simultaneous submissions are accepted, provided this is disclosed in your cover letter at the time of submission. Authors are expected to immediately withdraw any work accepted for publication elsewhere.
Multiple Submissions

Multiple submissions are permitted within a single submission period. Contributors may submit up to five poems, one long-form fiction manuscript, and photography portfolios containing no more than ten images. Any graphic narrative submissions should not exceed fifteen pages. Please group works of the same category into a single submission whenever possible.

Contributors retain full copyright to their work. By accepting publication with our magazine, contributors grant us First Serial Rights and the non-exclusive right to publish and archive the work in print and digital formats.
All rights revert to the contributor upon publication. Any subsequent republication or online posting must include acknowledgment of first publication by our magazine.
By submitting, contributors confirm that their work is original, unpublished unless otherwise disclosed, and does not infringe upon the rights of others.
Formatting

All written works should be submitted as text files (.docx, .pdf, .pages) in clear, legible fonts such as Times New Roman or Arial. For longer forms such as essay, prose, or fiction, the work should be double spaced. Poetry and other short works may be single spaced, one poem per page if submitting multiples. Please include clear titles for all written works at the top of the page. Submissions will be reformatted by the magazine, therefore only plain text is required. Pieces that include writing accompanied by artwork or photography are allowed.
The magazine is printed at 8.5”x11” individual pages, and 11”x17” spreads. Visual works such as photography, artwork, and graphic narrative should be submitted as high-resolution image files (.jpg, .png, .tiff, .pdf).
Works will be read and selected for the magazine after the close of the submission deadline. The process will take up to one week. We will notify participants that their work has been received, but submitters will not be given a notice of acceptance or rejection until after the submission deadline has passed. If you have not heard back regarding your submission, but the deadline for the current issue has not yet passed, please wait to be contacted. If you have not heard back after the deadline submission, please feel free to reach out to our team.
Far Afield exists to provide a platform for creative voices in our community and to create a lasting, collectible publication that brings together the work of writers, artists, photographers, and other contributors. As a not-for-profit publication, we rely on the support of readers who purchase the magazine to help fund the costs of printing, production, distribution, and future issues.
Contributors generously share their work with us, and we want to be clear that Far Afield does not claim ownership of contributor work or profit from the creative work submitted to the magazine. Contributors retain full copyright and ownership of their creations.
However, the continued existence of the magazine depends on the ability to sell copies of each issue. The value of a print publication comes from the unique experience of discovering and engaging with the collection of work assembled within its pages. When complete pieces are freely available online, including on personal websites, portfolios, blogs, or social media platforms, it can significantly reduce the incentive for readers to purchase the issue and support the publication.
By choosing not to share the complete version of published work online, contributors help protect the first publication of their work while directly supporting a community-focused project dedicated to celebrating and preserving local creative expression.
